• What is the solution to Moisture Management?

The simple answer is to control the liquid water movement.

How can you control water movement?

The Keene Solution: Our driwall rainscreen applications.

    What is Rainscreen?

In terms of building envelope, a rainscreen is the first layer of ventilation material on the wall, the siding itself; it can be an entire system of siding, drainage plane, and moisture/air barrier. Keene’s Driwall Rainscreen products are available in various sizes to fit the needs of your exterior wall systems. The structured strand product eliminates incidental moisture problems in most exterior veneer applications, including stucco, manufactured stone, and plank siding.

Best Practices of Installing Keene's Rainscreen

Ensure that the wall is free from structural defects, any membranes or flashing are properly installed, and that the final system will have a path for moisture to escape from the wall. Keene Building Products Rainscreen should only be applied to structurally sound surfaces, which incorporate good building practices and meet all local code requirements. Before starting any applications, check with your local building code requirements and read all manufacturers’ installation instructions.

When installing Keene’s Driwall rainscreen, the best practice is best to have the fabric on the outside. The structured strand should face the building interior. This ensures proper drainage and ventilation for all exterior veneers. For full installation instructions click here. The airspace that the Driwall rainscreen creates increases airflow through the wall cavity, allowing the wall to breathe and stay dry.  (Video references are below.)

Why does Keene use a Fabric Backing?

The fabric causes less confusion in the field because it is a standard for all applications – One product that fits all applications (stone, stucco, brick, etc. If a scratch coat is needed it does not impede on the created airspace. The fabric is black for curbside appeal making it aesthetically pleasing – Particularly in combination with our Driwall Rainscreen UV. Keene's structured strand products are environmentally friendly - Keene is LEED Certified: Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design. Our products are made from up to 40% recycled content. Our materials are locally sourced and recycled content are now combined in 2 options: 1. Raw Material Source and Extraction Reporting (1 point) 2. Leadership Extraction Practices (1 point).
