Moisture Protection Solution: Driwall Rainscreen 020-1

Products’ Driwall™ Rainscreen 020-1 drainage mat product to shield against problems caused by moisture and ventilation issues. Driwall™ Rainscreen 020-1 is a drainage mat for exterior wall systems. The entangled net product eliminates incidental moisture problems in a variety of exterior veneer applications, including masonry, manufactured thin veneers, stucco and siding.

Driwall™ Rainscreen 020-1 is a geometrically patterned polymer matrix bonded to a non-woven fabric. It is designed to create an airspace between the exterior veneer and inner sheathing. This space allows for airflow to ventilate the wall while providing a cavity through which water can properly drain. This helps to prevent problems in exterior applications that are caused by trapped moisture and water penetration, such as mold, efflorescence and cracking in exterior applications.

In brick cavity wall construction, as seen in Flats on Vine, the airspace in the cavity is shrinking to accommodate more rigid insulation for increased energy efficiency. The smaller airspace and increased incidence of mortar damning reduces the wall’s draining and drying capabilities. Without sufficient airflow to ventilate the wall, incidental moisture builds up and can cause efflorescence and deterioration. The cold, wet winter climate in the Midwest makes a building more susceptible to water damage due to the continuous freeze-thaw cycle. Driwall™ Rainscreen provides the buildings of Flats n Vine with an ensured airspace free from mortar and debris so that proper drainage and ventilation can occur.

When constructing Flats on Vine, it was crucial for the developers to integrate a drainage and ventilation system to ensure the integrity and longevity the development. With the success of the master-planned Arena District and Flats on Vine the developer is now recognized as one of the country’s most flourishing mixed-use developers.
