• In EARLY JUNE, KEENE BUILDING PRODUCTS TOOK PART IN THE 3RD ANNUAL "STUCCO LIVE!" AT WORLD OF CONCRETE IN LAS VEGAS.

Sponsored by the Stucco Manufacturers Association (SMA), Stucco LIVE! showcases best practices for flashing, lathing, and cement plaster applications for residential and commercial installations In this area, attendees interact with instructors, product experts and designers to learn the most current trends in stucco applications. SMA members and affiliated associations are also given the opportunity to introduce new products and assemblies that meet current energy code standards and high-performance trends.

As an affiliate of the event, Keene was able to provide a live demonstration of our Driwall™ Air Weather Barrier HP and Driwall™ Rainscreen 020  for exterior stucco applications. With the help of a team of SMA contractors, our very own Kip Bretting (Director of Sales) had the opportunity to present an in-person demonstration showcasing how the use of these products during installation can provide the proper protection and drainage needed in exterior walls.

"This is a perfect illustration, this is our Driwall Rainscreen 020-1 product. It's a six millimeter product. As you can see it is really easy to apply. The whole purpose of rainscreen is really to bring ventilation back into that exterior wall assembly; you've got higher energy codes, especially in California with title 24. So again, we want to bring back that breathability not only for drainage, but for drying. This quarter inch material is perfect, it's prpbably used in about 85% in North America. We make different thicknesses depending on the different types of exterior veneers that you're going to be working with. What I love about what we're doing here is that we're all promoting better building practices. So when we have Manufacturers like Stockton, that are actually making the related materials to incorporate rainscreens, that's HUGE, because all we all have the same goal, to promote better drainage and better vetilation."

Today, stucco has grown to incorporate several variations of the traditional three-coat cement stucco: Insulated one-coat stucco, acrylic finish coats, decorative foam shapes, rainscreen assemblies, crack suppression and cement board systems are all examples of innovations in stucco. The understanding and proper implementation of these variations/options are important as they can affect design, aesthetics, performance, and the installed price.
